Patient Instructions for Barium Enema
To make certain that your examination will be successful it is necessary to cleanse your intestinal tract before your exam. To achieve this purpose, closely follow the following recommend instructions.
On the Day of the Exam:
 | The oral magnesium citrate solution will need to be picked up at your local pharmacy* |

Noon: Liquid lunch consisting of clear soup, plain jell-o and clear liquid (water, sugar-free soda, (non-pulp) unsweetened juice, black coffee or plain tea ( no sugar, milk or cream) |

2:00pm: Drink 8oz. of clear liquid as described as above. |
|
3:00pm: Drink entire contents of magnesium citrate oral solution, followed by 8oz of clear liquid (water, sugar-free soda), (non-pulp) unsweetened juice, black coffee or plain tea) |
|
5:00 pm: Liquid supper consisting of clear soup, plain jell-o and clear liquid described as above. |

6:00pm: Drink 8oz of clear liquid as described as above. |
|
Do Not Eat or Drink Anything By Mouth After Midnight |
